It’s Basically a Documentary
-
Scenes from 2022. A shared house in Australia. A group of 22-year-olds, mostly international, mostly on visas, mostly pretending that was fine.
These paintings are built from photographs of everyday life: kitchens, bedrooms, living rooms, the people who filled them.
Each room is painted in a dominant hue that mirrors its emotional association: kitchen red, bedroom blue.
The colour of the space stays constant.
The figures are painted in their own flesh tones: individuals, always moving, always temporary, passing through a place that stays the same without them.
It's about belonging and not quite belonging.
About how a house becomes home for some people and never quite does for others.
